Ciboney

The Ciboney were the first known human inhabitants of the Virgin Islands. They lived in small groups in caves and crannies of the region’s hills. Eventually a more powerful band, the Arawaks, drove the peaceful Ciboney to the north. In the Arawak language, Ciboney means "cave dweller.”

By the time Columbus arrived, the Ciboney were long gone. But the natural beauty of the island and it’s waters the tribes once inhabited remains the same. Scrub Island pays tribute to their lifestyle with the most unique lounge in all the BVI’s, in all the Caribbean, located on the highest point of the island. With an uncommon openness to the natural surroundings, Ciboney provides a breathtaking getaway high atop the island--and dramatic 360 degree views of the ocean and its blues.

Dazzling in the morning, guests enjoy the European style continental breakfast, with pastries, coffee and juices in a place reminiscent of the islands at their most pure. Yet evening is the time Ciboney glows at its most spectacular. Tiki torches light up the rock formations and the evening’s pleasant warmth. Gentle, mystical music and the natural sounds of the wind and waves further bathe the atmosphere. Guests can take in the sunset with pre-dinner drinks. Or after dinner, guests can sip digestifs and browse an extensive menu of desserts worthy of the views. Any excursion to Ciboney is made simple and even more memorable with our custom funicular, our cable railway that transports visitors to and from The Pavilion.
