Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina Partners with DiveBVI to Offer “Turtle Researcher for A Day” Program

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina – the newest luxury private-island resort in the British Virgin Islands and one of Travel + Leisure’s 2014 500 World’s Best Hotels – has partnered with the on-island dive shop, DiveBVI, Association of Reef Keepers and the Conservation & Fisheries Departments, to offer guests a new “Turtle Researcher for A Day” program, a once in a lifetime experience that also assists in on-going sea turtle conservation efforts.

By participating in half- and full-day turtle tagging experiences hosted by DiveBVI, guests can learn about sea turtles and the local marine environment. The experience includes instruction on the latest techniques to safely catch a turtle and take measurements before it is then carefully tagged, micro-chipped and released back into the water. Data collected during each adventure will be recorded and used to help global efforts to better understand sea turtles and their conservation.

The half-day experience starts at $2,100 and the full-day experience at $3,900 for six guests. Up to six additional guests can participate for $50 extra per additional person. The experience includes gift bags, recognition cards, flash drive with photos from the day, fuel, water, adult beverages, snacks, towels and snorkeling gear. The full-day experience also includes lunch and soft drinks at a nearby restaurant.

For an additional $100, guests participating in the “Turtle Researcher for A Day” program have the opportunity to name and “adopt” any tagged turtles. Guests receive a certificate of adoption with all the details about their turtle, general information about sea turtles, a reusable grocery bag and a glass turtle handmade by the local Green VI, a non-profit dedicated to maintaining balance between development and conservation of the natural environment in the BVI.
