Posted by Juliana Jiménez, February 2020

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, a private-island resort in the British Virgin Islands, will once again host the Scrub Island Invitational during the 49th Annual BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival (March 30 – April 5). This is the fourth time the resort is the hosting sponsor for the springtime event, which takes place Wednesday, April 1 and is expected to draw more than 50 boats to compete in the race.

The exact course will depend on weather and conditions, but will wind through many of the lush islands, offering racers breathtaking views as they make their way to Scrub Island. Upon conclusion, Scrub Island Resort will host the crews, their families and friends, and race officials for a special luncheon and party on the Grand Pavilion Patio, Donovan’s Beach and lower level of the main resort swimming pool. The festive afternoon celebration will feature live music, a barbeque lunch and specialty drinks.

“This will be our fourth time hosting the Scrub Island Invitational and we’re excited to welcome back a growing number of racing teams, fans and families from around the world,” said Scott McArdle, general manager of Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina. “From the marina and spa, to our dining and award-winning pool, the group is going to love the recent improvements we’ve made, allowing us to showcase this amazing destination better than ever before.”

One of the top three annual Caribbean sailing events, the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival draws an average of 110 yachts, with 60% of competitors coming from overseas. The week provides options to enter all five races of the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, to take part in just the Festival, or the three-day Spring Regatta.  Each day will conclude with nightly entertainment with dancing on the beach, and local food vendors who will feature both local and international cuisine.

Located in the “sailing capital of the Caribbean,” the serene private island haven of Scrub Island Resort is home to one of the newest marinas in the BVI. Scrub Island Resort offers a fully renovated 55-slip marina for lease or transient docking, including five accommodating mega yachts up to 160 feet. Renovation highlights include brand-new pedestals that provide access to power and water, as well as new lighting with underwater illumination. Sailing and boating enthusiasts alike can appreciate the region’s fair weather, gentle trade winds and easy access to more than 60 additional nearby islands.
