BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS (April 19, 2023) – Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina is pleased to announce the winners of the recent Scrub Island Invitational, which took place during the 50th Annual BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival (March 27-April 2). This year’s winners are Pata Negra (CSA Division), Coco de Mer (Performance Multihull), Jenk (Cruising/Performance Cruising), Team Merlin “Sea’s the Daze” (Bareboat), and La Novia (Cruising Multihull).

Considered one of the top three annual Caribbean sailing events, the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival draws more than 100 yachts, with a majority of competitors coming from overseas. The week provides options to enter all five races of the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, to take part in just the festival, or the three-day Spring Regatta.

“We were thrilled to once again host the Scrub Island Invitational, which has become a favorite part of the long-standing and highly anticipated sailing event,” said Scrub Island Resort General Manager Michael Schoonewagen. “This being our fifth year as host, it was great to welcome back some familiar faces and first timers among the growing number of racing teams, fans and families from around the world who have come to love spending time at Scrub Island.”

The exact course depends each year on weather and conditions, but winds through many of the lush islands, offering racers breathtaking views as they make their way to Scrub Island. Upon conclusion, Scrub Island Resort hosted the crews, their families and friends, and race officials for a special luncheon and party at the main resort pool. The festive afternoon celebration featured live music, a barbeque lunch and specialty drinks.
“Our sailors look forward to the Scrub Island Invitational as it’s become a milestone within the regatta, and it seems the resort elevates the experience each year,” commented Judy Petz, Director, BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival. “The setting, the amenities and the genuine hospitality are spectacular.”

Located in the “Sailing Capital of the Caribbean,” the serene private island haven of Scrub Island Resort is home to one of the newest marinas in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Named a Boaters’ Choice Marina by Marinas.com, Scrub Island Resort offers a 55-slip marina for lease or transient docking, including five accommodating mega yachts up to 160 feet. Newer highlights include a petrol station pumping both diesel and gasoline and pedestals that provide access to power and water. The marina is open daily with additional amenities such as trash service, ice and other full-service offerings. Mooring guests enjoy Marina Village, home to a Harbor Boutique with high-end resort wear and accessories; a sundries shop with grab & go options; and the Scrub Island Outpost, a full-service provision store with gourmet foods, fresh produce, meats, seafood, beer, wine, spirits and more. For an added effortless experience, guests may also purchase provisions online prior to arrival at Scrub Island.

Sailing and boating enthusiasts alike can appreciate the region’s fair weather, gentle trade winds and easy access to more than 60 additional nearby islands. Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, St. Thomas, Anegada and Norman Island are among the many popular island-hopping destinations within a day’s sail of Scrub Island’s Marina.

Next year’s BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival takes place April 1-7, 2024.
